Pictures in the Mind
I have been practising using words that give readers pictures in their minds.
Last week, my whole school did Athletics Day.
The 9 year old boys and girls rushed excitedly from Vortex to High Jump. The girls walked over to their blue, soft, plastic, ripped high jump mat. The bar was black and white. The girls’ supervisor was Carla.

I was so nervous. I felt like I was a bug in a giant spider’s web but I had a good feeling that I would do well. The boys’ mat was the size of a hippo and it was green and white and had stitching marks on it. The bar was orange and white.

Athletics Day
Yesterday, my whole school and I went onto the field to do Athletics Day.
First, we rushed excitedly and nervously onto the green turf courts. There was so many of us that it looked like we were a swarm of bees. First of all, we lined up in our house lines and Mr K told us the instructions and he said that Harrigan was standing by the junior block with some sun block, then we started the chants. My house is St Anne. Our chant was,
Let’s make it clear,
St Anne is here.
Step aside for this is our year!
Let’s go St Anne!
We are the best,
We're way better than the rest! x2 Go....St Anne.
We were the last ones to do our chant. Straight after the chants, the whole school marched around the field then went to their first event.
Next, the 9 year olds did discus. The discus was round and as black as soot and it had writing on it to tell how much it weighed. I was third in line. My first throw flew in the air like a frisbee, and my second throw did the same, but didn’t go as far. My last throw was going good but, when I was about to let go, it slipped out of my hand. It became a no throw.

The Cat Who Got Swept Up
Once upon a time, there was a cat that lived in the wild. It was called Fat Albert. It was called Fat Albert because he was fat and his owner was called King Kong.
One day, Fat Albert was sleeping in some mud when, suddenly, a big colourful bird with a beak as sharp as a knife and wings as big as plane wings took him to a tree as tall as the sky. This tree was the biggest tree in the world.
All he could see were about one hundred birds the same, with bones and flesh in their nests and, at the top, there was a nest as big as, and, in that nest, there was a bird twice the size as Fat Albert.
The bird put Fat Albert in the nest then he heard a big noise. It was his owner and about ten thousand monkeys. They all climbed up the tree and killed all the birds. When they got to the top, they killed the big bird then Fat Albert pushed the big bird off the tree and they ended up living in it.

My Dad is the Best
Do you
want to hear about the best dad in the world? It’s my dad.
He’s
tall, bald and strong, with olive skin.
He is a
car wrecker and the good thing about that, is that we find heaps of cool stuff
in the cars and he builds heaps of cool things.
He
takes us hunting and fishing. He buys me cool motorbikes. He is
funny and, sometimes, he scratches his beard on my face and it feels funny.
My dad is the best.

Breakfast
This morning, some people from Sport Waikato came into my class and told us about breakfast. I learnt that some cereals you can’t eat every day. They have to have less than 15 grams of sugar, less than 10 grams of fat and more than 5 grams of fiber. You can make
things healthier. When you go shopping for cereals, you should look on the back to find the nutrition information. The best cereals are Weet Bix and porridge. Some cereals are missing fiber like Ricies, Cornflakes and
spaghetti. You can add fruit to cereals and wholemeal toast to spaghetti. Some foods you can’t have all the time, such as pies, fizzy drinks, chips, lollies and Cookie Times.

Wolves
What Are Wolves?
Wolves are like dogs, but bigger and stronger, and they can get fierce like dogs.
What Wolves Look Like.
Wolves are like Huskies and German Shepherds, but grey and white, and wolves have very fluffy fur and have blue eyes.
Where do Wolves live?
Wolves live underground in dens until they are at least seven months old. When the wolves are seven months old, they live in meadows in Canada and Russia and wolves in Antarctica live in snow and ice.
What Wolves Eat
In the spring and summer, wolves eat rabbits, hares, ducks and ground squirrels. They steal eggs and catch fish in streams and rivers. In Autumn and Winter, they can’t catch the little animals that are hibernating in winter so the wolves have to catch big animals such as caribou and musk oxen.
What Wolves Do
Wolves like to go hunting, they like to go and play and they like fighting to see who is the strongest.
Wolf Babies
Wolf babies are called pups or cubs. The pups are born in underground dens until they are three weeks old. When the pups are three weeks old, they come out of the den to play and to fight.
The pups fight each other to see who is the strongest. When the pups are two months old, they move to an open meadow close to water because wolves drink a lot of water when they go hunting.
Wolf Dangers
Wolves are scared of people, and wolves and polar bears have a special bond.

Zero Waste
Elgrego's Anti-Bullying Show
When we were ready, Elgrego began his magic by making birds appear. He then put a dove in a box and tipped it upside down and it was gone, then he put three birds into a cage, then he put a cloth over it and took it off and there was a rabbit in there. My favourite was the bird that went upside down.
Next, he performed a magic trick with fizzy raspberry drink. He put a glass in an upside down box and turned it upside down. He took it out. We were all watching to see what would happen. It was still full. We were all captivated. We all clapped.
After the drink trick, we watched Elgrego talk with Seemore, the baby green dinosaur. Seemore was sad because people teased Seemore at school because he was green. Elgrego was being a ventriloquist. A ventriloquist is someone who talks for a puppet. He sung The Rainbow Song from The Muppets and he felt better.

First Communion
Last night, I made my first Communion at St Paul's Church.
Half way through Mass, Bishop Browne called the candidates up, so we all stood up and walked to the front. I was the first one on my side to get the Host and the wine, then Father Keane put a Host in my hands and I said Amen, then I took a step to the side and did the Sign of the Cross and had a sip of some wine. When I got back to my seat, I said a prayer to Jesus. I felt happy that I had received Jesus.

Fishing Tale
Once upon a time, there were two boys. One was named Josh and one was named Nat. One morning, they decided to go for a fish so they hopped into their dingy and paddled out. It was still dark and cold.
When they got out deeper, they put down their lines. Suddenly, they both got a bite then Josh got a bigger bite.
Just then, a bigger Mako shark hit the boat. The boys fell out of the boat. The water was as cold as ice, then they saw a little island. They swam as fast as they could. Josh's heart was pumping like loud music.
They got to the island. Josh was about to have a heart attack.

Holy Week
Palm Sunday was Sunday. That was when Jesus rode on a donkey into Jerusalem. The people in Jerusalem laid their cloaks on the ground and waved palms at Jesus like Jesus was a king.
On Holy Thursday night, Jesus had his last supper. At the last supper, Jesus broke the bread and said, "Take this all of you and eat it. He shared the wine. he went to a different place in the room and washed their feet. One of the disciples left the table. His name was Judas.
On Good Friday, Jesus got put on a cross and he was crucified.
Jesus wasn't dead for long and on Easter Sunday, he rose from the dead. We call it Easter Sunday because we celebrate new life with Easter eggs.

Swimming Sports
Yesterday, my school went to Ngaruawahia pools to do swimming sports.
After lunch, the relays were on. I was in the Flying Squadron. The Flying Squadron was a house relay and the little kids had to run across the pool. Izabal ran to Logan then Logan ran back to Lakin then she did freestyle to me. I put my goggles on and looked at the pool. I put my hand behind me THEN my hand got tagged and I dived into ice coldness. It was cold but it was nice because I was hot. I came up then I started doing freestyle. I was putting hand after hand and breathing on every second, then I heard Go!!Go!!Go. I went faster then I put my hand up. I tagged Nathanael then he dived in.

Shrove Tuesday
This morning, we burnt last year's Palm Sunday palms to ash, so Father Keane can use them on Ash Wednesday, when he makes the Sign of the Cross on our foreheads and reminds us to follow Jesus.
After swimming, Olivina from Caritas in Tonga came to say thank you St Paul's Catholic School for the donations.

Rock Climbing
In the holidays, I went to my friend Nathanael's birthday. We went rock climbing. After they picked Logan, my brother, and me up, we went to rock climbing.
When we got to rock climbing, the instructor told us what to do while we put on our harness .The first rock wall I went on was the ladder. It was a grey and black ladder that was skinny and wobbly, but I still made it to the top.
It was so cool.
Waitangi Day
Waitangi Day is a national holiday to celebrate when the Treaty of Waitangi was signed and and NZ became a nation.
The Treaty of Waitangi was signed on February 6 1840. It was signed in the Bay of Islands. It was signed by 500 Maori chiefs and representatives of the Queen. The agreements were that Maori agreed that British would make the laws and the government, and the Queen agreed the Maori would own land, forests and rivers. The British bought land off Maori.
On Waitangi Day, we went to my dad's friend's farm and did target shooting. The target was a rubbish bin lid. My dad got a bulls-eye.
