Athletics Day

When I was 8 years old, our school had an Athletics Day. We all competed in lots of events, like High Jump, Long Jump, Vortex, Shot Put, Discus and Sprints.
It was a warm, sunny Tuesday morning. First, The school walked down to the court. The teachers stood while we were sitting on the green tiger-turf court in our house lines. We were dressed in green, red, yellow, blue, and PE gear which was black shorts and a  maroon t-shirt. Mr K came down and told us  to march around the field in our houses, then to go to our first events.

After we all walked around the the field, the 8 year olds went to high jump. The mat was a big fat blue mat. The pole was striped black and orange. Mrs Thomson was sitting on a plastic red seat behind a blue wooden desk. We started. I was first. I ran. I jumped. When I was in the air, it felt like I was floating, then I hit the mat. I sunk into it.
Third, we did shot put. I was the first person in line again. We did shot put under the big shady tree by the senior sand pit. We used a blue shot put. There was a big triangle with numbers one, two, three on it.
It was a fun day, but I was very tired when I got home from school that afternoon.

King Arthur's Castle

Mrs Death read us the story of King Arthur, then we used three different pieces of paper and combined them to show what his castle looked like.

Sarahs Favourite Island

Once there was a girl called  Sarah. She lived on a beach front. Sarah was 10 years old. After school, she would always go to her favourite island with a palm tree on it.
One Saturday morning, Sarah woke up early. She got her brown, wooden dinghy and her story writing book, then she dragged her dinghy into the water and paddled to her island
After a while, she was close to her island. She hopped out and pulled  the dinghy up onto the sand. She climbed up to her wooden seat. She opened her book and started to write.
After a while, it was getting dark. She started to pack up her book but then she caught sight of sharks surrounding  the island.
She was so scared she screamed. It was so loud the sharks got scared off and swam away to chase fish. Sarah jumped out of the tree and ran to her dinghy and paddled home.

New Zealand's Olympic Legends

The Kiwi Crew

During the Olympics, I saw Nathan Cohen and Joseph Sullivan racing for a gold medal.
The siren went. The race was on.
At first, the New Zealand crew were slow. When the oars hit the water, there were little splashes. The water was crystal clear. it was in the sun.
The NZ canoe was going fast, so I really couldn't see it, but it had heaps of white, then the New Zealand crew caught up.They were 4th, then they went to 2nd, then 1st. They were in the lead and they won.
I felt proud to be in New Zealand.
